Here at Onyx I have the opportunity to use our Canon 7D Digital Single Lens Reflex camera for both photography and video. Video isn’t necessarily new to digital cameras, but the DSLR allows more control for users to make conscious decisions about how they want to shoot their video.

Beards have been a popular discussion point around Onyx lately. Carlin decided he needed to have one. I normally have one. I hope that our next Onyx reunion will result in a beard convention.

How to Become Synonymous with Christmas

December 21, 2011Comments (0)

With the holiday season in full force I'm sure everyone has noticed ads, songs, movies, and just about everything being targeted toward the season. Here's a tutorial about how I fixed the problem of Barry's sock color in our recent Barineau commercial.  It seems easy but takes some time and patience especially when you're dealing with exciting things like socks!

Aaron Nix

you should know

Aaron is truly a sharpshooter, employing all methods of photography, filmmaking, and editing for a wide range of commercial and creative applications. His professional experiences range from tech support to freelancer to music video gaffer.

Aaron left the wide-open spaces of smalltown Nebraska for Tallahassee for his MFA in filmmaking from the Florida State University College of Motion Picture Arts. He caught the film bug in high school when his buddies started making wacky movies as a hobby (until he realized he could get credit for having fun). Aaron’s thesis film, WMD, has been submitted to several independent film festivals this season.

Aaron loves to watch hard-hitting, visually arresting films like The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, Road to Perdition, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. However, his own film projects veer toward funny and quirky subjects. Now that he’s graduated, Aaron fills his new-found free time with pickup games of basketball, and crazy road trips.

you should love

  • Excited about starting a family with his lovely wife, Emily, and plans a documentary approach to childrearing by taking a photo every day.
  • Loves the cold weather, travel, and outdoor pursuits—skiing, rafting, snow-shoveling, cross-country road trips —but the beach is close by, so he’s adjusting to the heat.
  • College football consumes his fall season. Rituals include the wearing of red, filling the ceremonial chips and dip bowl, and donning crazy corn headgear. Go Huskers!
  • Big fan of James Bond movies, Seinfeld, and Curb Your Enthusiasm (reports feeling more like Larry David every day).
  • Does a mean human beatbox, and would have become a music producer if he didn’t get into film. Secretly dreams about being a DJ (lookout, Angel).
  • Obsessed with Funyuns, and he can eat them faster than anyone (seriously, he’s won contests).
